These visual cues also called as maps were acceptable for the day flights, but airmail would operate at all hours.

Initially pilots used to land on open fields and used to maneuver the plane in a direction that gave them a better angle relative to the direction of the wind. Aides to the landing have been developed to help find the right course and landing to make sure of the landing.
